Camp.Gear
My role: UX/UI Designer
Background:
Camp.Gear is an app for a camping supply store that allows users to purchase camping clothing, gear and supplies.
Understanding our users through research
Virtual interviews
I engaged with a diverse group of people to understand how they shop for their camping gear, how often they shop and their experience online versus in store.
What I learned:
User pain points
Simple & Streamlined Returns
Some returns policies for camping gear are limited or require customers to pay out of pocket, which can lead people to want to shop elsewhere.
Wanting to support local
Supporting local businesses but not having the right products or having stores in their city.
Limited items available in their area
Smaller cities have a limited selection of camping merchandise customers can purchase in person.
Wanting to buy used items
Some users are focused on buying used camping gear for cost effectiveness and environmental factors.
User Personas:
The Problem:
Online camping stores don’t offer the same level or service and satisfaction guarantee on all items that shopping in person does.

Usability Study:
I conducted a usability study on my digital wireframes in order to ensure it was intuitive for users and they could easily complete different journeys. I did this by asking the user to find an item and complete their purchase.
What I learned:
The cart being in the lower right hand corner didnt feel intuitive for 2 of the users, they were used to it being in the upper right hand corner.
It wasn’t clear how to navigate to all of the categories and brands they could shop from.
The search bar would have been easier to find if it wasnt hidden within the fly menu.

The Goal:
Develop an app that intertwines the experience or shopping IRL with the convenience of shopping online.
